Annapolis Summer Garden Theater 2012 Season ![]() Anything Goes May 24 - June 24 All aboard for a saucy and splendid new production of Cole Porter's musical romp across the Atlantic! When the S.S. American heads out to sea, etiquette and convention head out the portholes as two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love…proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, an exotic disguise, and some good old-fashioned blackmail. Peppering this hilariously bumpy ride are some of musical theater's most memorable standards, including "I Get a Kick out of You," "You’re the Top," "It’s De-lovely," and of course, "Anything Goes." The recent Broadway revival of "Anything Goes" won five Drama Desk Awards, one Drama League Award, four Outer Critic Circle Awards, and three 2011 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. Avenue QJuly 5 - July 29 Winner of Tony® awards for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart. Imagine a "Rated R" Sesame Street for twenty- and thirty-somethings, including a cast of hilarious puppets. Avenue Q is a laugh-out-loud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. There, he meets Kate (the girl next door), Rod (the Republican), Trekkie (the internet sexpert), Lucy the Slut (need we say more?) and other colorful types who help Princeton finally discover his purpose in life. Songs include "What Do You Do With a B.A. in English?", "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist," "The Internet is for Porn", "Purpose", and many more. Please note this show is Rated R. Avenue Q is great for teenagers because it's about real life. It may not be appropriate for young children because Avenue Q addresses issues like sex and drinking. Parents should use their discretion based on the maturity level of their children. But we promise you this—if you do bring your teenagers to Avenue Q, they'll think you're really cool. Music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx. Book by Jeff Whitty. more
XanaduAugust 9 - September 2 Dust off your roller skates and pull out your leg warmers…"Xanadu" is now on stage! Seriously. Based on Universal Pictures' 1980 film of the same name—starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly —"Xanadu" follows the journey of a magical Greek muse named Clio who descends from Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California to inspire struggling artist Sonny Malone to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time—the first roller disco. But, when Clio—disguised as an Australian roller girl named Kira—falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds. Sprinkled with parody references to the film, this hilarious musical adventure rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, and includes new arrangements by Eric Stern of "I'm Alive," "Magic," and "Suddenly" as well as two classic Electric Light Orchestra songs—"Strange Magic" and "Evil Woman". The show opened on Broadway in 2007 and earned an Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, a Drama Desk Award for Best Book, and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Musical. "Xanadu" is hilarity on wheels for adults, children, and anyone who ever wanted to feel inspired. Book by Douglas Carter Beane. Music and Lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar. more
