Marian Rainford, “Blanche” and Melissa Rainford, “Mary”, came together based on an idea for a retail store that would be fun for the owner and shopper alike. Marian had the idea in 2002 while working in a corporate environment – not a fun place – in Boston Massachusetts and Melissa (her step daughter) was starting a family in Annapolis. Marian moved to Annapolis in 2004 and in 2006 teamed with Melissa to open the first Mary & Blanche! store in November, 2006 on Maryland Avenue in historic Annapolis.
